Trump.

The election was almost seven months ago. The inauguration was over five months ago. While I herein have no beef with the system which allowed these events to occur, and acknowledge the sanctity of the process of a peaceable exchange of leadership in our country, I just can't use the word President before his name. It seems surreal. Like a bad joke. Like a betrayal of the office of President of the United States. While mine wouldn't be the first, last, or worst betrayal of the office, it is mine with which I wrestle.

How Far Will They Take All This?

As far as we'll let them. PROTECT IP / SOPA Breaks The Internet from Fight for the Future on Vimeo . If you think more arbitrary government power will not protect intellectual property owners from infringement but will more likely be used to censor the internet, penalize its providers, and crush free content, please let your Congressmen know that you most emphatically do not approve of these horrendous bills. http://www.sopastrike.com/strike Read the bills here and here .

The President’s Pekingese

I know that President Obama has a Portuguese Water Dog , and that he’s done all right by Bo in not giving him the pants-less look so popular on those poor dogs.   The dogs I’m talking about, however, are the lap dogs his political stardom has attracted in Congress:   the ones who would not only sit on his lap, but betray their sworn oaths and the Constitution in order to sit at his feet . (Warning:  the linked video is very distasteful.   In it we see a fully grown woman whose lap dog status refers more to the noun form of to lick rather than the comfy spot made for a small dog when its owner sits down. ) Why am I picking on Pelosi? As the videos show, she is the self-appointed congressional champion of Obamacare legislation, and as such, has been whipped into a trance-like state, willing to do whatever it takes to pass the bill – except understand it. But we shouldn’t worry too much about the unprecedented expansion of the federal governme...

Reporting at its finest

Image
Today’s Boston Globe has an interesting look at the candidates running in the special election to fill the senate seat once owned by Ted Kennedy.   I find it humorous that these collections of photos are entitled “The Road to the Senate Race.”  photos here Apparently, Scott Brown once worked as a model, so there is a photo of him without a shirt on.   There is also a link to a music video in which his wife, Gail Huff, a local newscaster, worked as well. The piece is subtitled, “A Revealing Look at GOP Candidate Scott Brown.”  photos here   Martha Coakley’s photo montage consists of pictures of her in public forums, or things done in the name of her public servant image with the subtitle, “A Look at Democratic Candidate Martha Coakley.” If I weren’t already considering voting for Brown with the smallest hope that one less leftist lawmaker might somehow help turn the tide of our rush toward socialism, this unbiased, in-depth look into the candidates rac...

Four Minutes to Save the World

Who knew? Madonna, JT, Timbaland, The President, And my older children. Hmmm.

I was going to leave this alone, but…

It's just too outrageous. Two summers ago we had the wide pine planks on our first floor refinished. This rendered the entire floor off-limits for about a week. Being the ingenious folks we are – we put a ladder up to a second floor bedroom window to enter the house proper for showering. Also being the conscientious folks that we are, we notified the neighbors. “Hey! If you see anyone crawling into the back of our house over the next few days – it’s more than likely just us.” Except for the youngest, we used the ladder at least once a day for the few days. Sometimes even at night. It was a bit of adventure and the floors came out great (note to future self: wide pine floors may look pretty, but they’re soft as hell and require more maintenance than hardwoods). Of course, we could have kept our odd behavior to ourselves (as is normally the case) and run the risk that someone would call the police. Then we would have had to come down the ladder, explain the situation, and, a little r...

No Haven Left

The Brain Drain So, if I understand President Obama’s latest efforts at creative garnishment to feed the governments coffers correctly, he plans to hire over 800 new IRS analysts “to detect and pursue” money he feels should go to the American government instead of to the American companies that earned the money. "Nobody likes paying taxes, particularly in times of economic stress," Obama said. "But most Americans meet their responsibilities because they understand that it's an obligation of citizenship, necessary to pay the costs of our common defense and our mutual well-being." First, I find it appalling that Obama would use “common defense,” one of the legitimate powers of the federal government, in conjunction with the phrase “mutual well-being,” which seems to be community-organizer-speak for forced redistribution of wealth. It appears to be a transparent excuse to extort tax dollars to direct toward his unprecedentedly large welfare state programs. Furthe...

Al Gore: The World Domination Tour

Al Gore is at it again . Only this time, the choir he’s preaching to is more inclined to help make his maniacal dreams a reality. We are here today to talk about how we as Americans and how the United States of America as part of the global community should address the dangerous and growing threat of the climate crisis. We have arrived at a moment of decision. Our home – Earth – is in grave danger. What is at risk of being destroyed is not the planet itself, of course, but the conditions that have made it hospitable for human beings. That sure does sound bad, huh? - the United States will regain its credibility and enter the Copenhagen treaty talks with a renewed authority to lead the world in shaping a fair and effective treaty. A fair, effective and balanced treaty will put in place the global architecture that will place the world –- at long last and in the nick of time – on a path toward solving the climate crisis and securing the future of human civilization. What Gore believes is...

Stemming the Tide of Fear

I sure am glad those congressmen rammed through the expropriation of our funds for the good of the country. Glad their Blue Hippo efforts gave us what we deserved in order to save us from ourselves. They really knew what they were talking about when they decided that taking and redistributing 700 billion of our collective dollars in an emergency measure would help calm the fears about our economy. They really understood how that one day plummet of the stock market meant that we were beginning to panic. Phew! Sure am glad that's over. Check out today's DJIA. It's not pretty. Right now it's down 768 points. And now we're out that $700 billion to boot. Go Legislators! Go Legislators! Go! Go! Go Legislators! I thought they might want some chanting of their own. It seems that feeling like a rock star and/or part of a tribe is more important than understanding how a government of laws, not of men, sets America apart. Update: So the Dow Jones closed only 369.88 points dow...
