A Few of My Favorite Things

This was a pretty cool sight on Halloween afternoon, so I thought I'd stitch together a little video. Here are some interesting tidbits:

1) A few of our 3 ring binders can be seen on lower shelves on the left of the library.

2) The TV was on downstairs so I had to turn down the audio, but tried to preserve some of the sound of the leaves hitting the windows.

3) The video goes well with Thanksgiving, a track from George Winston's December album, but it may violate copyright law (especially in Germany?) so I took it out.

4) The Japanese maple in the backyard (red tree) usually drops all of its leaves over one 24-36 hour period. It was mid-shed when I took this video. It's nekkid now.

5) The chickens were out during this wind because it was about 70 degrees out as well.

6) The artwork on the wall is a Stephen Bourque original (as are the bookcases themselves) and the fashion drawings are by a local artist. The Thinker is a tiny replica of Rodin's sculpture.

7) Send any and all comments about the clocks being incorrect to: I_Know_Already@gmail.com.

8) Making little movies is fun!

Sammy watched with me and said, LEAVES, MOMMY. IT'S FALL! IT'S FALL! So what did you use to make the video? I still haven't found anything easy enough to bother with.

It's just that free Windows Movie Maker that came with my laptop. I spent a lot of the time syncing the music with the video so I was sad to realize that I really shouldn't do that and post it. But the learning to do it was really fun.

I took the video with my little digital camera and imported it and the stills to the project. There I just putted around figuring out titles, etc. It's not terribly user friendly, but it's easier enough to figure out through trial and error (or, heaven forbid, by watching the tutorials). There's a lot of back and forth between storyboard and timeline views in order to get in the effects you want.

Next, I'm going to have to write and perform my own music. Now that will be a treat!

I love your library. We homeschool in the kitchen. I could turn a room into a homeschool only room but then it would be on the third floor. I like being near the kitchen when I teach the kids (that's the Jewish mama in me. need to feed those kids)

Yes, you know, I think I'm going to go back to Windows Movie Maker. I hated it when I used it before, but the ones you have to pay for don't seem much better. I guess what I really hate is the processing time. Anyway, nice little movie!

Thanks, Shez and Amy.

Regarding homeschooling, part of it takes place in our bedroom because that's where the speakerphone and the better laptops are located. It's also where I was standing when I took the first picture.

The desks are a tight fit because it's a tiny room, but it's warmer here than at the kitchen table (even though she also spends a great deal of time there as well).

You need to be near the kitchen, Shez - your kids cook!

Talking about my kids cooking.... Shira made a cherry, chocolate chip, devil's food cake today. OMG, it was to die for delish (and it was vegan and gluten free). Can't say it was sugar or calorie free though.

See what I mean?

Today, my daughter made a mess in the kitchen, but she does makes a mean vat of lime Jell-o!

The older one is a Rice Krispy Treat whiz.

We all have our strengths. (I'm still looking for mine.)

I've seen plenty, but the one I envy is your ability to wear great shoes. I have rotten joints and feet so my poor feet are always shod in SAS lace ups with custom orthotics.

I hate it that Shira is growing up seeing sensible shoes. I should have had her a decade earlier when I wore 4 inch heels. (which made me look like a giant because I'm 5ft 10)

Don't be silly - I don't actually wear those shoes! I only covet them.

I do own a few nice pairs of high heels that I force myself to wear from time to time, just to prove to myself that I still can. But the ones I really want are 4.75" high. Hello!? I'm not even sure my toes would be able to touch the ground with my heel at that height! That's just asking for trouble.

In the meantime, I'd best get working on some other things.
