You Gave Us Music

Sunday was the last official concert of the All Together Now Family Chorus.  This intergenerational homeschool chorus, which began in 2003, has been a big part of our lives since 2004. It was through this chorus where we met our first homeschoolers and where many important friendships were formed for both myself and my daughter.

Today we had our end of year picnic and said goodbye for the last time as a group. In part, it was terribly sad because one of the directors and several of the members are actually moving away this summer.

Mostly, I'm overwhelmed by the feeling of joy of being able to have been a part of it.  It was really something special.

On Monday night, my youngest and I discovered that we were both trying to write about our experiences as a way to thank the directors.  She was writing a song, and I, a poem: neither of us getting very far, but having remarkably similar thoughts on the matter.  We decided to combine them and came up with this little song.

You Gave Us Music

It’s always hard to say goodbye,
I’ve never had to close such big a door.
To say farewell to summer lives,
Some I may not see anymore.

Will I forget? Will I remember?
Will the memories make me smile?
In a while, come September,
Will I know? I know.

Chorus
I’m happy with the time I got to spend
With you, with you.
It’s not that I’m overwhelmed by the end,
It’s true, it’s true.

You poured your heart and soul
Into our blossoming young lives
You gave us music, you gave us joy
You did your best to help make us wise.

We will never forget
Times together through the years.
We have not one regret,
Even through our happy tears.

Chorus
I’m happy with the time I got to spend
With you, with you.
It’s not that I’m overwhelmed by the end,
It’s true, it’s true.

'Cause I call you friend
You gave us music
I still call you friend.

Maybe someday I'll figure out how to post an audio file and then you can hear my stellar* guitar playing skills.

It's lovely and I thank you both.

Now write something funny so I will stop crying!

If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular?

Do Roman paramedics refer to IV's as '4's' ?

I didn't write either, but found both relatively amusing.
