In honor of our tremendous drum band experience this morning, I give you "More Cowbell" on the sidebar and the original skit from SNL below.

Can you guess which instrument I played in the band today? I wish I had watched this yesterday so I could have known how to act like a proper cowbell player!

You did a darn fine job--Christopher Walken would have been proud! I had a great time this morning. Loved that bass drum. I think Santa is going to be bringing percussion instruments to our house this winter.

Fiddler, I don't know what you were playing, but it looked a lot like a Bodhran. And it was good and loud! I loved it.

Rational Jenn, this was a group of about 10 moms and 20 homeschool kids all decked out with great drums, bells, rattles, and other percussion thingies. And after 45 minutes of patient instruction from a professional drummer, we actually sounded pretty damn good!

Perhaps it was the excellent time keeping by the main cowbeller. Hmmm?

Chay chay chay co-lay, that was my part, and I'm sticking to it. The drum I was playing was just called a "bass drum" by Tony. It did look like a bodhran, and it was darn heavy, let me tell you that. I loved how loud it was! I think I'll get one to call the kids in for supper from outside.

Stephen and I spent this last week at the Objectivist Conference ( OCON ) in Boston. We started out the week staying in town, but finished it off commuting. As we stayed at the Seaport Hotel at the beginning of the week when we knew almost no one, we didn’t take advantage of the social atmosphere, but were happily sequestered in our room. After getting to know a few people, we dined, drank, and were generally merry with those few. Through the classes, general sessions, and referenced symposiums (in the ancient Greek sense), I left with a calmer sense of purpose, renewed motivation, and a smoldering desire to make the world a better place. There's No Place Like Home

Vacation was fun, but I like being home. I guess I'm just boring that way. There was plenty of sun, sand, salt water kisses, family, food, and fun. Maybe it was the lack of tutus and tiaras. Now we're all experiencing a slight vacation hangover and need to rest. It's a good thing we have a few days before work and school.
